Website updating raises some frequently asked questions, the following are answers to some common ones. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please contact us.
Will the pages that you add look the same as the rest of my site?
Absolutely. We will duplicate an existing page to use as a template for new pages. If necessary, the existing HTML code will be cleaned up but the appearance of the page won't change.
Is it OK if we make changes too?
It is better for all concerned if you don't. When we are the only ones making changes we can keep track of what has been done and what remains to be done. Having more than one group maintaining a website makes it more difficult to track the changes.
You will save money letting us do all the changes. This is because we link check every page we work on. If we are the only ones making changes then your internal links won't need periodic checking.
How secure is my FTP password?
All account access information is stored in an encrypted database for security. Our PGP key is also available for sending us encrypted email.
Can I review changes before they are posted?
Yes. We can post the revised pages on our server for your review. This is only useful for changes in content or layout because the internal links won't work correctly on the "wrong" server.
Note that this will require more time for the changes and increase the turn around time.
What is the best way to send material?
The preferred method is to use email. If the material to be added is in electronic form this saves you money because it's not necessary to re-key it.
Improve your site with simple changes to the HTML code or more advanced projects using custom scripts and databases.
In the rush to get a site up and running, the "little things" can get put off and ultimately never get done. We will polish your site with the finishing touches that your visitors will appreciate.
Many sites lack the finishing touches. Some common omissions are:
"ALT" tags in all images for users not displaying pictures
Unique titles on each page so visitors have meaningful bookmarks
META keywords and descriptions on every page for the search engines
* can cover multiple pages (recommended by Google for more than 100 pages)
* can include the text from your DESCRIPTION META tag on each page
* link text uses your TITLE META tag for good search results
We will add these items and any others that your site needs.
As your business grows your website needs to grow as well. We can add custom scripts and databases to take your site to the next level.
Many custom scripts are available that add function to your site. Some useful examples are:
Custom form to email handlers (including auto responders and file uploads)
"Refer this site to a friend" scripts
Site traffic loggers
Bulletin board systems
